Destined for the DetailS
The Story of Superficial Details
Built for Precision
Superficial Details was founded on a singular principle: absolute technical precision. For owner Mason Barnett, a lifelong obsession with mechanical order and meticulous care naturally evolved into a career dedicated to high-end vehicle preservation.
The studio’s standard of excellence is built on a unique foundation of diverse technical disciplines. Mason spent years immersed in classic automobile restoration in Cedarburg, mastering the delicate nuances of vintage paintwork and finish preservation. He then spent over a decade in the high-speed industrial manufacturing sector, specializing in complex layouts, industrial control processes, and precision assembly.
This corporate and technical background—collaborating with everyone from specialized factory maintenance crews to corporate executives across the country—honed a rigorous, technician-grade methodology. In 2015, Mason synthesized this engineering mindset with advanced surface chemistry training in North Carolina, securing his first advanced certifications in ceramic coatings and launching what would become Port Washington's premier protection facility.
The Commission That Launched the Studio
Superficial Details officially transitioned from an elite specialty project service to a dedicated operation in 2016 at Road America. After a technical discussion regarding paint correction and surface preservation, a discerning enthusiast commissioned Mason to handle the complete preservation of a brand-new 2016 Nissan GTR.
Mason took delivery of the supercar straight from the dealership with only 5 miles on the odometer, executing a premium, highly disciplined preparation. Following its high-profile unveiling at a local Mequon cruise night, demand for Mason's specialized skill set surged, cementing the studio’s reputation for handling high-value assets.
By 2021, Superficial Details established its first commercial facility on North Wisconsin Street, featured by the *Ozaukee Press* as the first dedicated precision detailing and protection shop in Port Washington. Today, the business operates out of a heavily upgraded, climate-controlled studio at 637 South Park Street, fully optimized for advanced film and coating installations.
Elite Credentials & Industry Leadership
We do not believe in standard, high-volume franchise methods. Superficial Details is an authorized, elite-tier facility backed by rigorous factory training and master-level certifications:
SunTek Factory-Trained Installer: Certified in advanced Paint Protection Film (PPF) and window tint geometry and installation techniques.
IGL Master Certified Specialist: Authorized in elite, professional-grade ceramic coatings, including specialized undercarriage systems like IGL Aegis.
Angelwax Wisconsin State Trainer: Selected as the statewide professional and DIY technical trainer for Angelwax, personally mentoring and certifying multiple professional detailers across Wisconsin.
Trusted by the Industry’s Best
Our reputation for uncompromised execution is validated by the caliber of clients who put their keys in our hands. Superficial Details regularly services high-net-worth individuals, global racing figures, and enterprise operations who demand mission-critical accuracy:
Detailer's Roadmap: When the founder of the industry's leading digital platform—someone who evaluates elite detailing facilities worldwide—needed his personal Audi RS6 protected, he chose Mason for a comprehensive PPF, ceramic coating, and IGL Aegis undercarriage application.
Automotive Icons: The studio manages the private collection of a 15-year former President of WeatherTech International—a lifelong global racer, and co-founder of Motive Archive.
Mission-Critical Leaders: Our clientele includes Brian Allendorfer, owner of Allendorfer Construction and owner/director of the Milwaukee Air & Water Show. As a 20-year retired Air Force Master Sergeant and KC-135 boom operator, Brian’s career was built entirely on high-stakes precision—a standard he trusts Superficial Details to match.
Enterprise Logistics: The studio serves as the trusted vehicle preservation partner for executives, project managers, and lead contractors managing the massive local Vantage data center infrastructure project.
Rooted in Port Washington
While our clientele spans global racing and major corporate infrastructure, Superficial Details remains a dedicated, family-run operation deeply invested in Port Washington.
In 2021, Mason took over the management of the automotive footprint for the local Fall Street Festival. Today, he proudly hosts the annual Fall Street Festival Car Show, a landmark regional event featured regularly on CBS 58 and broadcast live on Fox 6 Morning News.
True community leadership means giving back. Every year, the massive turnout from the car show is leveraged as a major fundraising and food drive hub, gathering vital resources and donations directly for the Ozaukee Food Alliance (OFA) and the Port Washington Food Bank. To further drive local car culture, the studio also launched the area's first-ever Cars and Coffee at Hollander, located right down the street from our facility.
Our Operating Philosophy: 1% Better, Every Day
At Superficial Details, we operate on a philosophy of continuous improvement. We constantly reinvest our profits, upgrade our equipment, and refine our techniques to elevate our output by 1% every single day.
We offer a comprehensive level of surface protection and vehicle preservation that is unmatched in the region. However, elite capability shouldn't come with an ego. We refuse to hide behind confusing industry jargon. Our goal is transparency: we want you to understand exactly what is happening to your vehicle, why the chemistry works, and how to maintain it. Whether you want us to handle all the heavy lifting or want to learn how to preserve your investment yourself, we are here to empower you.
We work exclusively with industry-leading, professional-grade lines—Angelwax, SunTek, and IGL—because your investment deserves nothing less than manufacturing-grade precision.
Welcome to Superficial Details. Let's protect what moves you.
